November Art Happenings
Nov 5th, 2012 by andreaharris
My thoughts and prayers are with friends, gallery owners, fellow artists and to all those who were affected by the devastation of the super storm Sandy. The following New York City art news has been revised due to the aftermath of the storm. Manhattan has rebounded, but Staten Island continues to be in survival mode.
On November 15th, I will be inducted into the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA). This juried honor is scheduled to take place at the Rubin Museum of Art, 150 West 17th Street in New York City.
In addition, a new members’ exhibition is planned at the NAWA Gallery, 80 Fifth Avenue, Suite 1405, New York City. This will coincide with the November 15th induction, and the exhibition will be on view through November.

Founded in 1889, NAWA is the oldest professional women’s fine art organization in the United States, and many recognized women artists have been associated with NAWA including: Mary Cassatt, Alice Neel, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, Isabel Bishop, Anna Hyatt Huntington, Louise Nevelson, Audrey Flack, Miriam Shapiro, Pat Adams, Faith Ringgold and many others.
Earlier this year, my art was on view at Amsterdam Whitney International Art Gallery. Every month the gallery hosts a thematic gala reception to honor the art, artists and guests. Co-hosts and owners Mrs. Ruthie Tucker and H.E. Ambassador Dr. Alton Louis Amsterdam III – Ambassador-at-Large are the perfect hosts for such gala events! During the reception held last May, I was honored and pleased to be interviewed by well-known New York City TV show producer Kristal Hart (Kristal Hart Show). Included is a link to the interview that is now posted on You Tube: http://youtu.be/1rZKBheNJEI
I am also pleased to include a link to an article that was recently released by Gamblin Artists Colors Company. As many of you know, my preferred artist colors are made by Gamblin. The company’s commitment to quality, luscious colors and studio safety have inspired me since I first began painting. To my artist friends and to my friends that are not familiar with the painting process, included is a fabulous link that gives a great snapshot of Gamblin and the company that I truly feel is responsible for the glorious colors and textures that enrich my paintings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5pjMr2yTwU&feature=em-subs_digest-newavtr
In addition to my ongoing nature paintings, I have revisited the still life. A new series of paintings has begun and will be represented along with my nature paintings. Below is the first in a series of much larger than life paintings that invites the viewer into the still life. Yummy, just in time for Thanksgiving! Enjoy.
