AUTUMN SCHEDULED EXHIBITIONS
Sep 18th, 2012 by andreaharris
Summer was a spectacular time for my art – thanks to the galleries that represent me and their ongoing sales and commissioned paintings.
Looking ahead to autumn, I am honored to announce my participation in two very special museum exhibitions, Honoring Women’s Rights: Echoing Visual Voices Together and The Personal is Political: The Transformative Power of Women’s Art.
Both juried exhibitions selected portraits from my Portraits: Beyond Boundaries series– a bit of a departure from my nature paintings. The Portraits: Beyond Boundaries is a project very dear to my heart, and I am always thrilled to have the opportunity to have my paintings showcased.
Honoring Women’s Rights: Echoing Visual Voices Together opened September 7th, 2012 and has been extended to January 6, 2013. This exhibition examines and explores the social, political and economic issues related to women’s activism.
Venue:
National Steinbeck Center, One Main Street, Salinas, CA 93901
For those of you in the California area, The Center is approximately 17 miles from Monterey, Carmel and Pacific Grove.
The painting on view is of Aung San Suu Kyi, a Burmese opposition politician and chairperson of the National League for Democracy in Burma. In 1991 she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize but could not receive the award because she was under house arrest. She has received the Rafto Prize and the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. She remained under house arrest for 15 years and is considered one of the world’s most prominent political prisoners.
Painting Details: Aung San Suu Kyi, Oil and Cold Wax on Canvas, 24 x 24 inches, on loan to the museum from the private collection of Rochelle Rosenbloom.
The Personal is Political: The Transformative Power of Women’s Art is scheduled at the Koehnline Museum from October 4th through October 26th. I hope that you will consider joining me at the artists’ reception, details below:
Reception: October 4, 2012, 5-8 PM
Koehnline Museum, Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plains, IL 60016
In this election year, the annual collaboration between the Koehnline Museum and Oakton’s Women’s and Gender Studies Program features works by women artists that engage with and respond to the phrase spoken by feminist writer and activist Kate Millett. Although her phrase, “the personal is political” was “coined” in 1970, the words continue to resonate in today’s society.
Painting Details: Self-Portrait, Oil and Cold Wax on Canvas, 24 x 24 inches
October marks Chicago Artists Month. The Chicago Women’s Caucus for Art (CWCA) will exhibit art in the annual members’ show. This year’s exhibit, Small Pieces, will take place at Gallery 1837 in Chicago.
Please join myself and the CWCA for a lively reception:
Gallery 1837, 1837 W. Grand, Chicago, IL
Opening Reception: Saturday, October 6, 2012, 4- 8 PM
Closing Reception & Artists’ Talks: Saturday, October 20, 2012, 4:30- 6 PM
