“Chicago Art–Urban Pulse” at Tom Robinson Gallery
Oct 11th, 2010 by andreaharris
I invite you to join me and numerous other Chicago women artists for the closing reception of “Chicago Art–Urban Pulse” on Saturday, October 30th from 3 to 6 p.m., at Tom Robinson Gallery, 2416 W. North Avenue, Chicago IL 60647.
Members of the Chicago Women’s Caucus for Art (CWCA) and curator Judith Roth, a CWCA artist and member, have created this exciting and vibrant exhibition.
At the opening last night, I was delighted to have my oil painting, “Liberty” displayed along with the works of talented Chicago women artists. The concept of the exhibition is an exploration of how Chicago’s urban environment impacts visual artists.
“Liberty” addresses the subject of people from multiple cultural backgrounds living together. I originally created it as a direct response to the events of September 11, 2001, and it shows Lady Liberty with the American flag, leading children of different cultural backgrounds out of harm’s way.
Today, the painting continues to be relevant to people living in cities as we cope with hate crimes, bullying, street violence and threats to civil liberties.
“Liberty,” is part of my three-painting “Liberty” series that has been on view as a traveling exhibition.
You may also view “Chicago Art–Urban Pulse” at Tom Robinson Gallery on Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m. through October 30. For additional hours contact: 847.674.0321 or 773.248.1172.
