Springing Forward 2014
Mar 18th, 2014 by andreaharris
At last, spring is peeking around the corner! Although it has been a long winter, I have been rewarded with many great moments in my world of art.
In February, I dodged the snowstorms between Chicago and New York City to visit Amsterdam Whitney Fine Art Gallery in Chelsea, New York City, for the celebration and the opening of a group exhibition. Included in the exhibition as “Collector’s Choice” was my painting, Aura.
How exciting to learn that Aura just recently sold!
The themed, gala receptions at Amsterdam Whitney Gallery are always attended with VIP Visitors, noteworthy collectors and dignitaries. The February 6th Valentine Gala reception was filled with bubbly champagne, delicious appetizers and desserts. Guests wore festive red and pink attire to celebrate the occasion.
Simultaneously, another lovely art event took place at the Dole Mansion, located in Crystal Lake, Illinois. The exhibition, Fringes, opening reception was held Friday, February 7th, and was on view until March 1st. Several artists from the Chicago Women’s Caucus for Art were invited to exhibit: Sandra Bacon, Laura Cerf-Dahl, Pauline Kochanski, Bert Leville, Dale Osterle, Judith Roth, Cynthia Valcunus and myself. Curated by artist Jeanine Hill-Soldner, the Dole Mansion proved to be a perfect backdrop that showcased the artwork spanning diverse media, yet possessing a common thread of synergy.

Moving forward, spring holds exciting events:
The Breaking Criminal Traditions traveling exhibition. I am honored to have several paintings showcased in this poignant, and very important fine art exhibition that is created to raise awareness of global criminal traditions.

March 22- The Power of Color
A practical, hands-on educational experience that investigates the power of color and color mixing as introduced by Robert Gamblin’s Navigating Color Space. Understanding Color Space will make each artist’s work of mixing color easier and more predictable; no matter the type of painting the artist is creating. The experience will include an in-depth demonstration and hands-on workshop in an “open studio” atmosphere. During the experience partici- pants will have the opportunity to discover and paint with Gamblin Artists Colors. The goal of this experience is to broaden each participant’s color mixing opportunities and palette and to provide an experience that will enable participants to further explore and enrich their creative process.
March 23- Enriching Your Artistic Flow
A practical, hands-on educational experience with Gamblin contemporary oil painting mediums, including an in- depth demonstration and hands-on experience in an “open studio” atmosphere. Participants will have the opportu- nity to paint with all seven Gamblin mediums. The experience will also incorporate information about Gamblin varnishes and the aspects of studio safety. Each participant will have the opportunity to begin or complete a small painting. The goal is for participants to explore oil painting mediums, providing an experience that will expand their creative process.

Happy Spring!
